EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT ON:

Cyndi Akers, Case Manager

" I soon discovered

provided really did

make a difference

in people’s life,

not just on paper. "

I remember when I started working at bridgeways I underestimated what I was in store for. I had just moved to the Everett area from New York where I worked for New York Presbyterian Psychiatric hospital both inpatient and transitional housing. I was unsure if I could really learn and put to practice all the skills, experience and education I had been learning. I started out working at Madison House and Sno Alp, as an on call mental health aide 5 years ago. I soon discovered that the services bridgeways provided really did make a difference in people’s life, not just on paper.

Last year I accepted a new position through a Federal Block Grant as Outreach Specialist for bridgeways. I felt it was an honor to be in the community presenting information about an agency that I truly believe in and know the quality of care they provide to the clients we serve. I recently accepted a position as a Case Manager which allows me to stretch experience and education to the fullest potential.

While working for bridgeways I have been able to continue my education towards my Masters Degree while completing my Chemical Dependency Professional Certification, as well as a certificate in Gerontology, Case Management Problem Gambling.  Working with Co-Occurring disorders is a lifetime commitment.  I have gained more knowledge, and experience in mental health than I ever thought possible and in an environment where the consumers feel supported and receive the services they expect, need, and are entitled to.

Personal:  I have two grandkids back East I love to take road trips with. I like gardening, reading, and painting. I plan on buying a new motorcycle this summer and intend to ride around Hell’s canyon and a road trip to Alaska with girlfriends. I love to travel and am making plans to go to Italy and Africa in the next two years as well as London in 5 years with my granddaughter to watch the Olympic World Soccer events.
